Chennai city is still flooded, to an extend that vendors with no shopping area have no space to sell their items. In facts, it is not only the space is occupied which is problem but even customers are locked up in their houses. The movement of people has become extremely less which has affected the demand of side road vendors.
“No one will go in the rain to look for a side road fruit” Mr. Sukhumi who drove a rickshaw from Navollur to neighbour place said he did not have stock for three weeks now. He added that even if he has there is no way he could sell his items because of the unpredictable rain and the water around the roads.
“We find it hard to survive, our families depend on this business” Mr Sukhumi said disillusioned. He further stated that it hard to also make money for a new stock when one has been in a loss for such a period of time.
