Chennai city failed; Clean India Compaign

8960_855219881184129_3630579822947772078_nThe cycle from home, to the bin  and to  the dump site showed a leak,  there are so  many  dumpsite in  the most  streets sides of which  remain  unattended for days. There seem to be a lot lacking behind in the process .of eliminating  litter not only from  individuals but  even the institution/cooperate/company  responsible for the smooth garbage removal  process.

Let’s admit Chennai city has failed Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Keep India clean campaign. It has been a year almost completing two years, yet nothing much  is done in  the street of Chennai garbage and liters are still  flying around.

Wandering  inside Chennai city would not go without   questioning  whether Chennai  had received it portion  from Swachh Bharat Mission envisages investment of 62009 crore (US$9.2 billion), of which 14623 crore (US$2.2 billion) as it was reported provided by government in 2014.
It is arguable whether it is the money to clean the city or rather the project aim at educating the people living  in  the Chennai city  has failed the programme. The dump bins and many streets are filled with rubbish bin and the increase is on  a raise on a daily  basis.
Since October 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road he said that the best memorial to Mahatma Gandhi would be to achieve a "Clean India" by 2019, his 150th birth anniversary. It was reported that   Prime Minister Modi, who nominated nine famous personalities for the campaign, and they took up the challenge and nominated nine more people and so on. It has been carried forward since then with people from all walks of life joining it since 2014.If leading by example did not do much influence to Chennai, how can we help Chennai to look better and be safe for all.
456517496There are many poster signed Keep  Chennai  city  clean  and Green,  in many  street  corner as to  reminder that  the city  need to  step up towards living  in a hygienic streets yet  no sign of change is visible in Chennai as   liters are increasing daily.
Should we say it a mindset that most people cant live without littering, or should Modi’s government redesign another the cleaning campaign? Because the matter seems not well taken, with the available bins, they are still floating with garbage. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan objectives seemed to be clear from the beginning; its call  for
‘Introduce modern and scientific municipal solid waste management practices”
“Enable private sector participation in the sanitation sector”
“Change people’s attitudes to sanitation and create awareness”
Well! How did Chennai city missed it all? It  is a pity,  and yet  devastating  seeing  the children’s of Chennai  walking in streets cover with plastics bags and stinking  garbage. Accepting of the campaign was not enough it is time Chennai City  came together and start practicing living in  the hygienic street life.
The campaign had reach Chennai yet the city  seemed has ignored. Seeing beautiful architecture and colours  of places like Egmore,  filled with  litters,  the beauty of the city come to  waste as   it  faint  in  garbage.

Business in T. Nagar Bridge still operating under flooded

While other places are slowly drying up T. Nagar bridge still has standing flood water.  Until today business, especially vendors are operating under flood water.  There is still water standing around places where vendors set their stall after the heavy rain which had been pouring in Chennai. The bridge  is about four Kilometres with  500 hundred vendors stall.
“It was devastating, the water level went beyond my hips, there was no  way we can open any  shop around here”

Chennai rains which stopped about five days ago has tremendously left many with nothing.  Business people in  T. Nagar who  are getting  back  to  work cannot  forget  the flood turgid  not only  form the mark it  had left but   even  from  the experiences many  has learn from it.
“We had to shift everything to the up  floor soon  we realise the rain was not stopping” Sundraman Said who  operate in the five floored building.
He also explained that  the challenge was space where the stocks needed to  be kept safe as well  the fear of stock being  damage.
“ There was water  everywhere,  it  was coming  t]from  the ground but  the upper was too humid so  there was no  grantee of items not  being damage as we squeeze them in together.”
There was no optimistic view one could says about the situation many had to either shift  their  stock items or submit to  the loss.  According to most vendors stated that they had lost about ten days of business operation.   No shops could open plus neither was there any  customer flow.
“The challenge was coming  to  open the stall  and checking the items every day, with  a bike it was hard for me to  reach  the place,  rain was pouring  none stop”  Mr Rajesh  shared his experience.  He resides near Velachery however to pass through form  his place to  T.Nagar was  a challenge.
Many vendors estimate the loss of thousand of lark of their items.  However they are glad to be back, able to restart over and business seemed slowly catching up  again.
They reported that with the help of state trucks which is still removing standing water they feel soon the place would dry   up.
“ One may  appreciate us that had survived  because many  lost  their lives even  we had lost  stock  items.  God has blessed us” Said Mr. Sathivkumar

Chennai rain withhold vendors business

Chennai heavy and not resting rain everyone in the cities.  Those who  own places cannot  sell  those who  want to  buy  has nothing  to  spend on.
“This stock is new but everyone complains it expensive” Sagetha ma said.  She own a local shop  in Karipathur whre she vendors in vegetable.  She explained thatall vegetable has inclined with more than 30% ,  tomatoes which were Rs,30.00  a kg are now sold at  Rs, 100:00.
It a big challenge for her as well, the customers has to compromise she cannot afford to  lower her price to  because the wholesale price has  gone to  high in an  eye blink.
Chennai city  is still  flooded,  to  an extend that  vendors with  no  shopping  area have no space to  sell  their items.  In facts, it is not only the space is occupied  which is problem but even customers are locked up in their houses.  The movement of people has become extremely less which has affected the demand of side road vendors.
“No one will go in the rain to look for a side road fruit” Mr. Sukhumi   who drove a rickshaw from Navollur to neighbour place said he did not have stock for three weeks now.  He added that even if he has there is no way he could sell his items because of the unpredictable rain and the water around the roads.
“We find it hard to survive, our families depend on this business” Mr Sukhumi   said disillusioned.  He further stated that it hard to also make money for a new stock when one has been in a loss for such a period of time.
To answers whether he had raised the issues with local  authorities/institution helping floods victims he said ,  so  far his  family  like few other had receive food but  it is no  enough for a  man livings.
For three weeks in a raw, the rain continues pouring robbing some off their markets while providing others with the best weather of Chennai city.
